Whether it’s just the right time or perhaps that Jon Bernthal’s time with the character is coming to an end, Marvel fans like myself are going to get a big and welcome dose of The Punisher in the next few months.
Announced on Tuesday, everyone’s favorite crime-hating vigilante will be starring in his own one-off special called Punisher: One Last Kill, coming out on Disney+ on Tuesday, May 12.
Marvel has experimented with the one-offs before (a one-shot if you’re into comic parlance) with Werewolf by Night and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, the latter of which I still haven’t seen for some reason. (This will be the year, I can feel it.)
It will be an hour long and other than that, we don’t know much else. I love the black and white promo photo below, but it’s unknown if the actual show will also be in black and white. That would be pretty cool.
After debuting in the initial Daredevil season in 2016 followed by a pair of somewhat forgotten solo seasons in 2017 and 2019 under the Netflix Marvel arrangement, the Bernthal Punisher returned to current day Marvel Studios lore as part of the excellent first season of Daredevil: Born Again which bowed in 2025.
The second season of that show returns this week (!) with the one-shot coming a week after the s2 finale. I don’t believe he is in this season for what it’s worth or that could be just a swerve.
But it is confirmed that he will be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day which comes out in July which will be seen by an estimated shit-ton of people.
The full graphic can be found below and you can return here on May 13 for my thoughts on the special.
