There are spoilers ahead for season four. Be warned. Now, read.
The Ton will certainly be buzzing soon.
In the official Should You Watch recap of Bridgerton’s first four seasons, I mentioned how they yet hadn’t delved into same sex marriage or really anything, well, gay.
That is about to change for their fifth season as it was announced Tuesday that the leads will be Lady Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza), opening up the door for something that is perfect for the audience as the show’s first same-gender romance.
There’s even a teaser video (seen below).
Francesca is a member of the Bridgerton clan who married a guy named John who, well, didn’t make it through season four. His cousin Michaela was staying with them and had a sometimes terse relationship with Francesca, brought together by John’s passing.
But Michaela bounced at the end of the season after Francesca asked her to stay, looking very concerned as she did. My wife pointed out there might be feelings there, but as a brute, I didn’t notice that. Turns out she was right.
I’m curious if they go the full marriage route or if this is a main story to pair with the next Bridgerton kid getting married.
Production is underway for the fifth season with eight episodes on tap. It will take place two years after the events of season four.
