Hi, I’m Josh. I wrote this.
January 2026 saw the conclusion of the second season of Landman on Paramount+, bringing the only current Sheridanverse show to an end (at least until Y: Marshals kicks off in March).
So, should you watch? Let’s get into a non-spoiler (p)review if you’re thinking of checking out either seasons one or two.
Landman | Paramount+
How many seasons?
Two (renewed for s3 in December 2025)
How many episodes?
20
What type of show is it?
Drama
What year(s)?
2024 and 2025
Where to currently find it (as of January 2026)
Paramount+
Who is it for?
This is more of what I call a “beer and bourbon show” than a “white wine and spritzer show.” It’s a Taylor Sheridan product, so there’s some rough livin’, rough talk and a good ol’ slice or 10 of Americana. I’d say if you tend to clutch pearls with entertainment or maybe have an aversion to red states, this isn’t for you.
What’s the commit level?
18 hours, 35 minutes through two seasons. If you don’t watch the intro theme and credits, you’ll save two minutes an episode and just under 21 minutes overall.
Is there a bailout episode?
The pilot sets the tone and is just 56 minutes. If you aren’t feeling it, you can depart.
Any interesting background in the show’s creation?
This is based on the Boomtown podcast “about the activities of major oil companies in the Permian Basin region mostly located in Texas” that came out in 2019 with 12 episodes. I haven’t listened, but if you did, hit me up if you think it’s worth the time.
Sheridan and Christian Wallace co-created the show, purchased by Paramount in February 2022.
What’s the reaction been?
The show is a monster for Paramount. The season two finale got nearly 15 million worldwide views in its first two days according to their data which I wish came out more often like Netflix’s TUDUM numbers.
Anyway, the show is ranked “Generally Favorable” on Metacritic and pretty good marks from critics on Rotten Tomatoes (general audience, not so much which doesn’t jive with the increasing viewership).
Are there actors the average TV watcher would recognize?
Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Sam Elliott, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia
What’s the main plot in a sentence?
An landman navigates life working for a small oil operation in Texas while having a comically absurd family life and cast of characters.
How about another sentence?
It’s a drama, but has plenty of both comedic moments and “That’s a stretch” moments, mixed in with some heart.
What’s the rewatchability factor?
Low
If you like these shows, you’ll like this one?
Yellowstone, Reacher, Lioness, The Hunting Wives
Is this a first or second screen show?
I preferred first screen, but you can easily get away with second screening it.
Should you watch Landman?
I was all in on the Sheridanverse shows before Landman and remain so. It doesn’t tie in with any other shows (as of this writing, anyway) so if that’s an appeal, you won’t find it here.
You also won’t find a heady show here that makes you work too hard mentally. Look, I love mysteries and theory shows but I also love spending 40-ish minutes having fun with a show that isn’t afraid to get a bit dirty. This is Landman.
The term “lived in” is used a lot when it comes to actors and certain roles like they know from the jump who they are playing and who they should be. There’s a lot of that feeling on Landman, Thornton especially. I couldn’t remember the last time I’ve seen Larter in a show (Heroes and Varsity Blues before that?), but she also plays the role of Thornton’s ex-wife to 11.
The supporting characters are just that, but everyone is on the same playbook. I wouldn’t say these are my favorite Hamm and Moore performances, especially Hamm who exists but doesn’t really make an impact. It also has a classic Sheridan move with a well-known actor that only appears for one episode (I haven’t mentioned this person yet, so you’re unspoiled.)
So yes, I think you should watch, beer or bourbon or both in hand.
