Here’s what TV shows I’m most excited for in January 2026

Hijack | Season 2

A flip of the calendar, a flip of the remote and just like that, we are firmly in January 2026 and our TV New Year has officially begin.

In the TV Content Onslaught Era, there is no such thing as downtime and if my math is right, there’s about 50-ish seasons or specials coming our way this month (according to the always helpful Hollywood Reporter, anyway).

Here’s what I am looking most forward to with a few that are intriguing enough to keep on the ‘maybe’ list:

His & Hers

Season 1 | Netflix | January 8 | Six episodes

This is based on a novel and is a thriller starring the always excellent Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson. Based on the trailer, there’s also a few other “Hey, I know them!” like Pablo Schreiber (The Wire) and Sunita Mani (Mr. Robot, GLOW) which is always good to see when you’re going in cold.

Based on the trailer, this seems to be in the Watch with the Wife Wheelhouse.

Hijack

Season 2 | Apple TV | January 14 | Eight episodes

The first season was an out of nowhere hit and now, Idris Elba returns to take his act on a train vs. a plane. Yes, it feels a bit like what happened to the Speed movie franchise but the first season was so entertaining in a similar 90s action movie vibe, there’s no chance I am skipping this. All aboard.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Season 1 | HBO Max | January 18 | Six episodes

The latest entry into the Game of Thrones universe launches with a lot of work to do to shed the stink of the final GoT season in addition to House of the Dragon which I haven’t really liked that much.

As I understand it, Knight is based on a short story by George R.R. Martin and is fairly lighthearted and a much different feel than the other shows. Episodes are around 30 minutes which is also pretty intriguing.

I look at shows like this pretty simply: why not? I’m still not over how GoT ended though.

Wonder Man

Season 1 | Jan 27 | Disney+ | Eight episodes

All eight episodes are dropping at once, also around the half hour mark, which is either good or not good based on recent/semi-recent shows like Echo and Ironheart. It could be just Disney looking at their recent success rate with Marvel TV shows and saying “F*ck it.”

Like Stranger Things, I still believe in Marvel. I have to. For now.

Shrinking

Season 3 | Apple TV | January 28 | 11 episodes

This has emerged as one of my favorite shows: a breezy feel-good watch with heart, adult humor and neighbors we wish we had. I’m still amazed at how comfortable Harrison Ford feels in his role which can be said for pretty much everyone in the cast.

Bridgerton

Season 4, pt. 1 | Netflix | January 29 | Eight total episodes over two parts

On the surface, one would not expect me to be either a fan of this show or the targeted audience. However, my wife wanted to try this years ago so I joined her. While it’s not my favorite, it’s the only soapy show like this that I watch. Well, that was until The Hunting Wives, but that’s a story for a different post.

Mildly intrigued

That above is 38 episodes worth of TV which isn’t too daunting over the course of, say, six weeks or so. IF I manage to get through all these, here’s three other shows that seemed intriguing based on the trailers.

  • Ponies (Peacock)
  • Run Away (Netflix)
